Seals Backpackers is situated in the cool little village of Cape St Francis, approximately 115 kilometres from Port Elizabeth and en route to Cape Town. It is named after the nearby and renowned Seal Point Beach that first found fame in the 1960s when it featured in the indie movie Endless Summer. In the cult film, surfer and documentary maker, Bruce Brown along with two friends cross miles of sun-blasted dunes to finally stand gaping before a heavenly vista of empty, sparkling-blue, right-breaking point surf, proclaiming to have found the perfect wave.
Today the beach is easier to access and there is no need to clamber over miles of sandy dunes, however the perfect, uncluttered right break has not disappeared and still draws in surfers from around the continent, amped to test its perfection right on the doorstep of Cape St Francis Backpackers.
Slightly east of Cape St Francis lies the equally ripping Super Tubes of Jeffreys Bay and around the corner the iconic surf spots of St Francis Bay including Huletts and Bruce’s Beauties. To the west travellers can discover the wonders of the Southern Cape Garden Route, the home of outdoor adventure and adrenaline fuelled excitement.
In Cape St Francis itself there is much to uncover and experience, all within walking distance of Seals Backpackers, and besides firing surf and other ocean-related water sports there are tons of walking and cycling trails, hikes, horse rides and more – so read on, make a booking, and start planning your own Endless Summer at Cape St Francis Backpackers.
